Big Wednesday : Kits & Clips

So last year we did a few Wednesday night rides on a slightly larger scale than normal in training for the 100l Rotorua/Taupo race.

These were well enjoyed by most, so for the first ‘Big Wednesday’ of 2012 Kenny and I decided to change it up a bit and bring in ‘Kits & Clips’ so larger rides with cleats and lycra for that inner roadie in all of us that we don’t like to tell people exists.

We started off small this time with a 50ish KM ride out to Manukau and home via The Airport and Onehunga.

Nice evenings for riding we have at the moment, get out and enjoy them!

First Tank Farm Tuesday of the new year okay weather brought a few people out for a social spin, from what I hear we missed some super shitty weather when we were in Fiji so most of country prop aint been riding much, well aside from the real hard core MF’s!

Mike Zombie brought out his GT, this has to be the one and only in New Zealand, ever, amazing build Mike! Full write up to come?

Kenny has almost got levitating on lock…

Even our dear old friend Jeff (SR) came out for a spin, good to see you on a track bike again buddy!

Snacks on snacks on snacks!

Clay from stuckylife ran into some of our homies Ken white and Mike Davies at the mini drome in Vancouver a few months ago. He recently touched base and we got some stickers out to the flip side of the globe for him. It’s always rad connecting the dots around the world. Check their blog here.

CGK X FIJI

Mega photo post…

Conrad found a cat.

And then another cat.

But Baxter found a real cat…

As you can see it was an amazingly serious cycling vacation and alot of progress was made!

Fiji riding was lets say ‘interesting’ with the temperature at mid 30’s celsius and 90-100% humidity.

We don’t really get those sorts of conditions in Auckland so we did take it a little on the mellow side, but hey that fixed gear its just for getting to the coffee shop any way aint it?

Or to the bar with free WiFi as it may be in this case…

The roads on the island were pretty good, a bunch of speed bumps but that happens, on the main land it was another story so we figured we would keep it lazy as its a summer holiday after all and keep to the island.

I am although rather saddened by the fact we never made it to…

“#1 Scene Cafe” surely this would be the perfect hangout for the fixxaay conscious traveler, unfortunately we never made it there, probably because smangin’ piccolo’s in 40c and 100% humidity just doesn’t sound like fun at all.

Traveling with oversized luggage is always fun from getting massive board bags off planes onto trains onto monorails onto ferries and back again, I have enjoyed it. This being the first time I personally flew with a bike I gained a few gems of knowledge, box’s work yes but maybe some more padding etc would avoid scratches and the other thing was just don’t look like Baxter as his bags were searched at every chance! Too many snacks on snack on snacks.

Boxes packed, Bags packed, Some of The CGK and The CGG are heading to Fiji tomorrow morning for a slightly warmer new years holiday! Should be fun, sweltering heat and really shitty island roads, perfect! Tour de Fiji…. or maybe just Denarau!
